If you plan on doing your own makeup, or are having it done professionally, keep the following in mind.

1. Drink plenty of water!! Yes you've heard it before but it really does make a difference. This will clear out toxins, and help reduce dark circles around eyes. Start preparing your skin about six months in advance if you want to radiate in your photos! If you're prone to blackheads have a deep cleansing facial and consult your beautician.

2. If you don't usually have facials, stop the facials approximately 6 weeks before your wedding, unless advised by your skin specialist. Some dermalogica treatments are o.k up until 2 weeks before the wedding so make sure to ask.

3. Brows brows brows!! Brows frame the face, you may have never thought of shaping your brows before, but definitely give it some thought now! Dont panic if you've overplucked. See your beautician, or else if its too late to let them grow before your wedding, they can be penciled in using a brow pencil. Brow pencils come in a huge range of colours, from blonde tones, to darker shades.

4. Do not have your brows waxed the day before your wedding or your trial, as makeup won’t take over freshly waxed skin!!

5. If you plan on wearing fake-tan on your wedding day, do have a tan on for the trial, as colours will look completely different. You can do your own tan, if you plan on doing it yourself for your wedding. Why not organise your tan trial or hair trial with your other stylists around the makeup trial. Ruth is happy to work with you on your schedule.

6. If you come across any pictures you like in magazines etc, tear them out and bring them to your trial! Its no harm to keep them, so as you get a feel for what “look” you would like.

7. Try and have your trial two months before the wedding. Any longer than that, and you may find your skin type and colour has changed. For example in the Summer if you have been on holidays, you may pick up a tan, and have healthy looking skin. If your wedding is in Winter you may have paler skin, which may be a little dry from the heating being on in the house/work all the time.

8. Choose a look that is timeless. This way your photographs will never date. And stay away from white frosted eye shadows as they look terrible in pictures with the flash! As for lip colours, you may love your nude lipstick but stronger colours look fabulous in photos. Try this: put on your nude lipstick and get somebody to take a digital picture, not try something with a pink tone or a reddish tone and take the picture again. Which looks better?!

9. Bring a twist-up powder brush,or short handle powder brush, lipgloss and powder for touchups on your wedding day. This way your makeup will look fresh and shine free all day. If you're prone to oily skin and are worried about your makeup sliding off all day get a good blot powder or else blot paper. Blot powder contains an ingredient called mica which absorbs excess oil and stops your skin looking shiny. Loose powder is great for a natural finish. Perhaps one of your bridesmaids could keep  them handy.

10. Lastly, non makeup related! Enjoy every minute of your wedding day, and when the day comes along, don’t worry about other people!  Don't be worrying about the cousin who never came home from Australia, or the aunty who didn't quite approve of the menu, or the uncle who brought his new girlfriend! The day is yours to enjoy with your new husband, savour every moment.
